In the late 1800's Henri Bourgie established the funeral firm Bourgie H. & Co and opened his first funeral home.
By the early 1900's, along with his brothers and family, Henri Bourgie changed the name of the company from Bourgie H. & Co. to Urgel Bourgie. This was followed by an expansion of the company that included the offering of embalming and funeral services, starting a casket and hearse manufacturing facility, and the addition of multiple funeral homes in the City of Montreal.
From the mid to late 1900's, Urgel Bourgie continued to enjoy remarkable growth through successful expansion and acquisitions of other well established companies such as Parc Commémoratif de Montréal, Jardins Laurentides (St-Hubert), Parc du Souvenir (Laval), and Maisons Funéraires Feron's within the Montreal area as well as J. Bouchard et Fils, Lepine Cloutier, Jardins Québec, and Falardeau, Bédard, Roy in the Québec City area.
By the late 1900's and early 2000's, after a brief ownership by Stewart Enterprises, Urgel Bourgie was acquired by a wholly owned Canadian company called Celebris Memorial Services Inc.
Today, Urgel Bourgie, directed by a management team with over 30 years of executive-level experience in the funeral profession, continues with expansion plans and is recognized as a market leader.
The combined companies employ over 500 people and serve 10,000 families per year by providing a full range of funeral, crematory and cemetery products and services, all of which are offered on both a pre-need and as-needed basis.
